Barcelona

I had no idea what to expect once we touched down in Barcelona last December. I have to tell y’all the story of how we ended up in Barcelona later (its actually a really cool story). It was my first time in Europe. But as soon as we touched down I was blown away by this city. Lets start with the infrastructure and buildings found in this city. The colors of the buildings are mesmerizing. No two buildings are the same and there is an attention to detail that is second to none. There’s so much history found in this city. I often found myself reduced to using vocabulary like “Wow”, “whoa”, “that’s crazy.”

My favorite part of this trip was that I got to experience Barcelona with my wife. Let me tell you that’s better than any spoon full of sugar found in Mary Poppins black Celine bag. I know you are probably surprised that I know that brand but my wife has dropped her share of hints to me. Ladies, sometimes you got to drop a hint sometime. Help us out. But I digress. Barcelona is a very walkable city. Nothing is too far away. The city is so beautiful that a 30 minute walk will feel like it took 5 minutes. Now you will rack up a lot of steps on your apple watch or Fitbit so be prepared for that. I think we were averaging 25,000 steps a day while we were in Barcelona. So fashionable/comfortable shoes are a plus.

The most surreal moment of the trip for me was when we went to Montserrat! I cannot even attempt to describe how beautiful the scenery is. The views will literally and figuratively take your breath away. For me, there’s just something about being on a mountaintop that makes you feel closer to heaven. If you don’t feel close enough to heaven, you can take 7 more steps to get you there (you’ll have to go there to know what I’m talking about). Your reflection and quiet times can climb to new heights at Montserrat. This is a must visit if you are ever in Barcelona.

Located in the city of Barcelona in Catalonia Spain is the Arc de Triomf. This monstrosity was built by Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas as the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair. Lets be honest, I know y’all are wondering how’s the shopping in Barcelona. One word, AMAZING! Barcelona is such a fashion forward city. The streets were lined with style conscious people. That’s probably because there are so many awesome clothing stores. I wanted to buy it all. I wished we had a few more days so that I could dive deeper into the shopping pool. We are planning to go back because there were so many treasures in this city that we didn’t get to explore.

But this moment right here was the memory I will never forget. My wife and I leading worship together in Spain. We both feel called to worship and doing it together. So this was the beginning of our destiny. I will never forget how thankful I felt in this moment as we led worship together. There’s something so amazing about walking in the promises of God. His timing is always so much better than ours. And his plans are always greater. I’ve learned that (insert Alicia keys voice here *) “No one, No one” can stop you from receiving what God has for you. But I know this is just the beginning and he’s not done with us yet.

It’s been real Barcelona. See you next time.
